Reflections from The Word

Elders George Swanson & Chris Cochran

There has been some debate lately on whether Jesus is actually God. Let's find out what His Word says:

Micah 5:2 "But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Too little to be among the clans of Judah,
From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.
His goings forth are from long ago,
From the days of eternity."

This passage clearly speaks of Jesus birthplace, and speaks of His eternal existence

John 1:1, 14 "1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." "14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth."

These verses clearly speak of the Word being God, and being manifest in the flesh. This also is speaking of Jesus. But what does Jesus say about Himself?

John 8:58 "
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.”"

Jesus is telling the Pharisee's that He existed before Abraham was born, and using the Words of God from Exodus 3:14. Using the term "I AM" is a straight up claim to deity. The Jews picked up stones to stone Him for blasphemy, showing they understood what Jesus was claiming.

There are many, many other passages that reinforce His claim. Jesus Christ is indeed God in the flesh.
